The Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA) is urging Kamloops to improve collaboration to tackle the housing crisis. In its first year in the 2024 Municipal Benchmarking study, Kamloops ranked ninth out of 23 cities, above Vancouver and Toronto. The study highlighted a need for better transparency, as the city did not provide data. CHBA noted that housing affordability is a pressing issue, with rising municipal charges and slow approval processes impacting costs. The average approval timeline is 6.9 months, with significant fees for low-rise and high-rise units.
